David “Scott” Grant embarked on his law enforcement career in 1984, joining the Pasco
Sheriff’s Office in Florida in 1989, where he began his distinguished K9 career. Over his
35-year tenure as a law enforcement officer, Scott worked with five K9s. In 2014, he
became a certified K9 Trainer for the State of Florida and has continued training K9s to
the present day. Scott has conducted comprehensive K9 classes and schools covering
Patrol, Narcotics, Human Remains Detection, Tracking, and Area Searches for persons
and evidence. He also has extensive experience in K9 maintenance training, ensuring
teams remain prepared for certifications and court presentations.

K9 T.C. (GSD): Dual-purpose K9 for Patrol and Narcotics
K9 K.T. (Lab): Narcotics Detection K9
K9 Missy (Mal): Narcotics Detection K9
K9 Mac (Lab): Human Remains Detection K9
Scott has attended specialized training with the FBI Animal Behavior Section in Quantico,
the Center for Forensics in Ohio, and the University of Colorado Mesa Forensics
Investigation and Research in Colorado. He has participated in numerous seminars
across Florida and conducted training sessions with teams in both South and North
Florida, focusing on maintenance and new K9 training techniques.
Scott has also instructed training sessions for the Florida Department of Law
Enforcement (FDLE) in Tallahassee, the Florida Association of School Resource Officers in
St. Petersburg, and the National Association of School Resource Officers in Orlando.
These sessions were designed to train non-K9 officers on creating effective plans for
narcotic searches in schools and how to best assist K9 teams during these operations.
Throughout his career, Scott has been recognized with several awards, including two
Purple Hearts, Deputy of the Quarter, Deputy of the Year, and the Meritorious Service
Award. He has held various titles, such as Field Training Officer, K9 Trainer, and Firearms
Trainer. Scott was assigned to the Training Division for New Recruits and In-Service
Training, specializing in Firearms and Active Shooter Training.
Additionally, Scott has instructed Firearms and General subjects at Pasco Hernando State
College and Simpson Technical Institute. He has been certified by the State of Florida as
a Trainer since 2004 and continues to hold this certification. In addition, Scott has
belonged to and certified with the following organizations, NAPWDA, NNDDA State of
Florida, USPCA, also held an elective position as vice president, Florida.
